How do design rights expire?

Design rights can end in three different circumstances:

• on the expiry of the term of protection of the rights: the term of protection is five years and may be renewed four times. The maximum term of protection is, therefore, 25 years;
• in the event of the voluntary cancellation of the registration or the renunciation of the rights arising, for the territory of Benelux, from an international application;
• in the event of the cancellation of the registration by a judge.
