The following is considered as a tanning salon: “any place where at least one sunbed is made available to consumers”. This definition is given in the Royal Decree of 20 June 2002 on the operating conditions of tanning salons.
New NACEBEL codes
The Management Department of the CBE has created a specific code for tanning salons.
Since 1 March 2017, new NACEBEL codes have entered into force. Under the code “96040 - Entretien corporel” (Personal care), you will now find:
- 9604002 - Centres de bronzage (Tanning salons)
- 9604003 - Services related to wellness and physical comfort provided in thalassotherapy establishments, spas, Turkish baths, saunas, steam baths, massage parlours, etc.
Codes 9604002 and 9604003 replace code 9604001 which was abolished on 28 February 2017.

Since 1 March 2017, any establishment where a tanning salon is operated must register with the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises, under the specific NACEBEL code 9604002 - Tanning salon.
You are not a tanning salon operator, but offer wellness services?
Since 1 March 2017, registered entities which do not operate a tanning salon but offer services related to wellness (including thalassotherapy, spas, Turkish baths, saunas, steam baths, massage parlours, etc.) must request the adaptation of their activities in the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises.

You are not a tanning salon operator, but offer wellness services?
If you are registered with the CBE under code(s) 96040 and/or 9604001 in the details of one or more establishments, you must submit a request to add code 9604003 (PDF, 300.91 KB) by sending the form "Demande d'adaptation au niveau de l'unité d'établissement - Centre de bronzage" (DOC, 176 KB) (Request for adaptation of establishment - Tanning salon) to the Managment Department of the CBE.
There is no fee for this request.
