Table of Contents
Een workshop over diepzeemijnbouw in gebieden voorbij de grenzen van nationale rechtsmacht vond plaats op 5 juni 2018. Hij werd georganiseerd door de FOD Economie, K.M.O., Middenstand en Energie, in samenwerking met de Federale Overheidsdienst Volksgezondheid, Veiligheid van de Voedselketen en Leefmilieu, de Federale Overheidsdienst Buitenlandse Zaken, Buitenlandse Handel en Ontwikkelingssamenwerking, het Federaal Wetenschapsbeleid en het Koninklijk Belgisch Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen.
De workshop had tot doel de stand van de techniek en de verschillende perspectieven over de ontginning van polymetallische knollen in de Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone te verduidelijken, inclusief de zorgen van zowel de industrie als de milieu-ngo's. De presentaties en het debat zullen worden gebruikt als input voor Belgische beleidsmakers om het Belgische standpunt daarover uit te werken voor de volgende zitting van de Raad en Assemblee van de Internationale Zeebodemautoriteit in de zomer van 2018 en om een diepzeemijnbouwbeleid voor België verder te ontwikkelen.
