Fees
During a first contact, I will check whether your dispute can be dealt with amicably or not. I will give you any useful information about my possible intervention. My rate will only start to apply when you and the other party have formally assigned me my mission.
The tariff applies to all tasks carried out by the mediator.
The hourly fee is only applicable to mediation requests made on www.belmed.fgov.be and amounts to 95 euros/hour, VAT included.
Before the mediator can take any action, each party involved in the procedure has to pay a provision of 190 euros VAT included (2 hours) on the mediator’s bank account. This sum will be used to cover the first expenses and will be deducted from the final bill.
Unless agreed otherwise, the mediation fees are paid in equal parts by each party involved in the mediation process. If there are more than two parties in the process, each additional party will be invited to pay the same amount.
The costs associated with the entire mediation process are usually max. 800 + 168 (VAT) = 968 euros to come to a mediated solution.

How does it work
The mediator follows the strict ethical principles inherent to his function. He facilitates discussion, defines the conflict and identifies and clarifies the choice. Without imposing a solution, he enables the parties to exchange their points of view in a constructive dialog. He encourages communication and thinking in an atmosphere of mutual listening, respect and trust, which favours creativity. Finally, he makes it possible to find an agreement which complies with regulation and meets both parties’ interests.
