How to register a domain name

In general, you must contact a registration agent accredited by a domain name management organisation in order to register a domain name.

  • Names of national domains (.be, .fr, .nl, etc.) are administered by national bodies, which are accredited by IcannExternal link.
    In Belgium, ".be" domain names are managed by the NPO, DNS.beExternal link.

  • Generic domain names (.com, .org, .net, etc.) are administered by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (IcannExternal link).

Registration agents are mainly internet service providers (ISP).

The conditions, registration process and prices differ from one domain name management organisation to the other and therefore from one accredited registration agent to another.
