In addition to the risk of fire, the insurance automatically includes three additional risks. It concerns cover for damage resulting from an attack or a labour dispute, damage caused by a storm and damage caused by natural disasters. The legislator took such measures, either to reduce the pressure on public finances or to create solidarity between insured parties subject to a relatively high risk, or for both reasons at the same time.

Moreover, by mutual agreement between the parties, the insurance contract may include additional cover. For example, for damage caused by electricity, water damage (in the building), broken glass, theft, indirect losses and commercial unemployment for which a daily indemnity is guaranteed.

The choice of supplementary cover is important because it determines the insurer's intervention.

Here is an example:A given insurance contract does not include "glass breakage" cover. Following a minor fire, a window is broken. The insurer will intervene on the basis of the fire cover.

However, if the glass breaks due to vibrations caused by a passing truck, the insurer will not intervene, since it is damage covered by the "glass breakage" section, which has not been taken out.
