Much more than a market

In 2023, the European Union celebrates 30 years of the Internal Market, one of its greatest achievements. It has helped to make daily life easier for citizens and businesses, promoting jobs and growth throughout the EU. Today, this precious asset is facing new challenges.

In June 2023, the European Council mandated the Spanish and Belgian Presidencies to prepare and contribute to the political debate of the next EU legislature through a High Level Report on the future of the Single Market. At the request of Deputy Prime Minister Dermagne, the FPS Economy supported the work of Mr Letta, President of the Jacques Delors Institute and former President of the Italian Council of Ministers.

On 18 April 2024, Enrico Letta presented European leaders with an independent report entitled "Much more than a Market". The report sets out recommendations on how to strengthen the Single Market to ensure a sustainable future and prosperity for all EU citizens.
