In the face of climate change, our society must meet the challenge of transitioning to a sustainable economy. To this end, the FPS Economy commissioned a study from external contractors. Its objectives: to encourage companies to integrate sustainability goals into their projects without risking a breach of competition rules.
The study:
- identifies and analyses the provisions of Belgian and European competition law currently applicable to sustainability agreements between companies,
- compares and analyses initiatives adopted by other EU Member States to strengthen legal certainty for companies engaged in sustainability efforts,
- examines the practices and perceptions of Belgian companies in order to identify their needs and the concrete obstacles they face,
- puts forward a series of recommendations to the Belgian authorities to better reconcile the goals of free competition and sustainability.
