Theme 6: Backups: Back Up Your Data

A medieval lord could multiply as many lines of defence as possible and prepare himself as well as possible for an attack or an incident, but this never made his castle totally infallible. Even the most powerful kingdoms would sooner or later fall victim to the enemy or suffer a serious disaster, such as a fire.

At the time, the consequences were disastrous and could result in the total destruction of the castle, the looting of its property and/or the death of its population. There was no going back, unless you were lucky enough to run into Merlin the Magician.

Fortunately, you no longer need magic to save your business: there are data backups!

These backups allow you to keep a complete copy of all your company 's data: customer details, stock inventory, accounting, etc. Have you fallen victim to malware? No problem, thanks to your backup, you can recover everything.

But beware: having this backup solution does not mean that you can neglect your defences and rely on it alone. If you don't take the right precautions, your backups can also become corrupted and unusable.

To avoid any unpleasant surprises, it is also important to ensure the quality of the content of the backups and the efficiency of the recovery procedure.

Remember

  • Castle in the Middle Ages:
    • Successful enemy invasion or disaster = destruction, looting and massacre.
      • Without magical intervention, there is no hope of recovery...
  • Cybersecurity for your business:
    • Successful cyberattack or incident = destruction and/or leakage of your data.
    • Possibility of "turning back the clock" with backup copies of all company data.
    • Don't neglect your protection: a data backup can be corrupted and become unusable!
    • Ensure the quality of the content of the backups and the efficiency of the recovery procedure.
