Economic forecasting

Being able to anticipate changes is indispensible to crafting a coherent and efficient economic policy. This is why the FPS Economy has opted to develop its skills in economic forecasting in order to provide more support to the government in identifying strengths and weaknesses of Belgium's economy and financing.

Defining future-oriented guidelines on the basis of the FPS Economy’s skills

The FPS Economy develops short- and long-term recommendations and information on trends and overall guidance, all while taking into account the macroeconomic context (conjuncture and predictions). In addition, the Department identifies Belgian and European economic priorities in work programmes, reports, and the recommendations of national and international authorities, as well as developing “long-term” scenarios (globalisation, growth, energy, etc.).

The FPS also ensures the coherence and quality of the figures and analyses used internally.

Ensuring the exploitation of strategic "niches" by the SPF as part of Belgian economic policy

The FPS Economy identifies a certain number of fields in which to position itself. For example: carrying out analyses of the impact of regulatory frameworks and structural reforms. Next, it develops policy options on the theme of the financing of the economy and creates platforms which group together various institutions (National Bank of Belgium, Central Economic Council, Federal Planning Bureau, etc.) to focus on specific themes.
