Quality in the construction industry

Construction quality is of paramount importance to the FPS Economy.

Construction quality covers:

• construction works;
• construction products;
• construction professionals.

To ensure high-quality construction works, technical specifications are therefore set. These include:

• the works themselves (basic technical specifications and requirements);
• the construction products they involve (technical specifications and CE marking).

With regards to construction professionals, the FPS Economy organises the approval of construction contractors.

The construction sector

The construction sector is one of the largest in the Belgian economy.

It includes:

• over 75,000 businesses, mainly SMEs, i.e. over 10% of Belgian businesses;
• over 200,000 employees and 50,000 self-employed workers, i.e. over 7% of the total workforce.

The construction sector is a regular part of Belgian people’s daily life, particularly when:

• building a new home;
• renovating a home;
• maintaining a home etc.
