June 9, 2017: BELAC, the Belgian Accreditation Body, joins the “World Accreditation Day”!

World Accreditation Day

9 June marks World Accreditation Day as a global initiative, jointly established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation.

The theme in 2017 covers the following issue: “Accreditation: Delivering Confidence in construction and the built environment”. With this initiative, the community of the accreditation bodies wants to highlight the role of accreditation to support the construction sector. Therefore, ILAC en IAF have published a folderExternal link and a videoExternal link.

The construction sector plays a prominent role in the Belgian economy. This is reflected by a significant number of bodies in this sector being accredited by BELAC, the Belgian Accreditation Body,  for the performance of activities of testing (26), certification (12) and inspection (6).

Moreover, the Belgian Federal Public Service Economy, acting as the Belgian notifying authority with respect to the EC Regulation 305/2011 on construction products (CPR), has decided to rely on accreditation for the demonstration of competence of the conformity assessment bodies candidates for notification. BELAC and the notifying authority have developed strong cooperation mechanisms that include exchanges of expertise for the development of the accreditation requirements and guidelines, as well as the participation as assessors or observers in the accreditation assessments.
