European domestic energy policy
European energy policy covers all of the European energy-related measures that apply throughout the European Union (EU). The energy policy of the EU supplements the national energy policies of the various Member States. The EU will only act if European intervention will provide added value compared with national policy. This is referred to as the principle of subsidiarity. A European domestic energy policy is necessary to realise certain elements that cannot be realised at national level.
The main elements of European energy policy are as follows:
Trans-European networks – Energy,
Specific working groups with representatives from Member States:
Madrid Forum (gas),
Berlin Forum (coal, oil),
European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF),
Comitology committees.
